Targeting keywords and Keyword Research

Target Keywords

Why You Should Use a Target Keyword?

When writing an article whether it is for your website or information about your product(s) you need to think about the target keyword. By using the keyword you will have a better chance of showing up on the first page when people use a search engine such as Google.

Example of a Target Keyword

If you are selling Santa ornaments you would name the title of your article simply “Santa Ornaments.” Or for even better results you can use the title “Santa Ornaments for Christmas.” Christmas is also a targeted keyword that will give you more chances of being read on a search engine. Whatever it is you are selling, be sure to put it in the title. Think of the words people would use when searching for your product. If you title your ‘Santa Ornaments” something else such as “Gifts for Friends” it will not show up on the Google page for Santa ornaments which is what you want and need to make a sale.

If you are selling a specific item such as only snowman ornaments you would make sure you put that in the title instead. Do not use words that are unimportant to start your title such as the, as, etc. Try to use a title that will be captivating to your readers. Lastly, make sure your title gives a great hint what the reader is going to learn from the article and follow through.

How Often Should I Use the Keyword?

You want to use the target keyword enough times to bring you up to the first page on the search engine. The catch-22 is you do not want to use the target keyword too often as then your article will be penalized and you will have a lower ranking in the search engine burying your article on the search engine pages.

Use the target keyword:

  • In the title within the first three words.
  • Once in the first paragraph.
  • Once in the body of each paragraph.
  • Wrap up your article in the last paragraph or summary and use the keyword at least once.

It is recommended to use the keyword in five percent of your article for maximum optimization.

Why Be on the First Page of Google or Other Search Engines
It is very important to try to get on the first page of Google. Research has shown if you are not on the first page of a search engine, your business will not do very well online or may even fail. Most people that search online only use the very first page when looking up items.

Summary

  1. Be sure to use the target keyword most people would type in when looking for an item in your article.
  2. Use the keyword within the first three words of your title.
  3. Use the targeted keyword at least five percent in the article.
